COVID-19: Cure likely to be found before a vaccine – expert

Professor Jeremy Nel says scientists could find a cure for COVID-19, sooner than a vaccine. Nel is leading a team of South African experts taking part in the World Health Organisation’s solidarity trial which aims to find a treatment for COVID-19. I think it’s quite likely and that is because the vaccines are still being developed and they will take at least 12-18 months.

The drugs that we are trying as part of this trial are already available in substantial amounts around the world and if we can show that they work they that will enable us to start treatment”, said Nel. The COVID-19 death toll in South Africa has increased to 11.

The number of confirmed cases is at 1655. Coronavirus Hotline Number: 0800 029 999 from 8am to 4 pm, Monday to Friday
