Police and prisons union Popcru wants the government to cut ties with private prisons in the country. This follows the Thabo Bester prison break from the Mangaung Prison in the Free State. The facility was being managed by private security G4S.
Speaking at a roundtable discussion in Pretoria Popcru says the incident is an embarrassment that shouldn’t have happened and clearly shows that private prisons prioritise profit over everything.
