IFP calls for Cele’s intervention in political killings

The IFP is calling on Police Minister Bheki Cele to intervene in political killings in KwaZulu-Natal.

IFP councillor Mthembeni Majola was shot dead in Estcourt on Friday night.

Unknown attackers opened fire on his vehicle.

Police confirmed Majola sustained multiple gunshot wounds and was declared dead on the scene.

Two passengers in his car were rushed to hospital.

Majola was a co-accused in a plot to murder the Endumeni municipal speaker.

The province has been plagued in recent years by politically connected killings.

“The family is quite devastated because of the loss they encountered. It’s a loss for the community as well that Majola was serving, even the IFP we have lost a strong leader… We are very concerned since this is not the first councillor to be gunned down in this fashion…” said IFP chairperson, Thamsanqa Ntuli.

“We’re calling on the minister of police, Bheki Cele to investigate and send a high team to investigate these assassinations so that as the IFP and the family, we’ll be at peace knowing exactly what is happening,” he added.
