A Tshwane Metro Police Department constable is out on bail for allegedly soliciting a R2000 bribe from a motorist.
Road Traffic Management Corporation (RTMC) spokesman Simon Zwane the officer and her companion allegedly stopped a driver of a vehicle with an unroadworthy trailer on R104 near Mamelodi on 10 March.
Zwane said the officer demanded a bribe from the motorist.
He said the motorist reported the incident to members of the RTMC Anti-Corruption Unit and arranged an entrapment together with the Hawks.
“A female officer was arrested on the spot and the amount of R2000 was found in her possession.
“She was kept in custody over the weekend and while her companion was released on warning,” Zwane said.
He said the suspect appeared at the Pretoria Magistrate court on Monday and was granted bail on R2000.
The case was postponed to 12 May 2023.
