Minister of Police Senzo Mchunu said it’s concerning that the alleged mastermind of the Lusikisiki massacre planned the crime from jail.
However, he welcomed the arrest of three more suspects in Port Shepstone and said more arrests are expected, including in prison.
Mchunu was addressing the police portfolio committee on Wednesday, shortly after the arrest of three suspects in connection with the killing of 18 people in Lusikisiki.
“But we know that we are still sitting with the mastermind, so-called, who is in prison. We have been avoiding it in terms of arresting him, but it’s a matter that’s being processed, and in due course, he will then join the others.”
Mchunu said he will be meeting with Minister of Correctional Services Pieter Groenewald to discuss the prison link in crimes committed outside of correctional facilities.
