Police are investigating the death of a toddler at a Soweto crèche. In a video provided to eNCA by the distraught family, a teacher is seen pinning down the 19-month-old before force-feeding her. The family says the post-mortem indicates their child suffocated to death. Little Emihle Cele (18 months old) was declared dead on Monday afternoon. The Cele family says they were initially told their baby had had a seizure.
But CCTV footage from inside the creche shows that Emihle was pinned down by a woman feeding her. The woman can be seen pinning the child’s hands and legs under her thighs and feed her several spoonful’s of what’s believed to be mashed potato. While the family is still coming to terms with their loss, they’ve requested that authorities bring those responsible to book.
Police have asked for patience as they try to get the answers. People must be patient, as long as a case has been opened what we promise is that it will be investigated,” said Gauteng police spokesperson Kay Makhubela. The owner of the creche was approached for comment. It’s under the police. We don’t know, we can’t comment,” she said.
