The National Union of Metalworkers of South Africa has slammed Eskom, saying the utility can’t plead poverty while spending more than R3-billion on security per annum.
Numsa is demanding a 12 percent hike while the power utility is offering an increase of just over five percent to employees.
“As Numsa, the core reason for our demand is the cost of living,” said spokesperson Phakamile Hlubi-Majola.
She said wages and benefits have remained the same since 2016/2017.
“We think that it is justifiable for us to make a demand of 12 percent or double-digit increase.”
