The Gauteng Education Department says it’s halved the number of unplaced pupils for 2021.
MEC Panyaza Lesufi has congratulated his team on social media, for reducing the number from 40,000 to 20,000 in a week.
Well done Team @educationgp. We’ve reduced the unplaced learners from 40k to 20K within a week. Let’s remain hopeful that we will clear the remaining numbers by next week so that all parents can be happy. Let’s keep pushing. @Steve_Mabona pic.twitter.com/sHcpxb9Ii4

The department hopes to place the rest in the next week.
Priority is given to children who live within the feeder zone closest to a school.
Parents may object to placements within seven days of receiving the offer.
There will also be a window for late applications, from 22 December to 22 January.
