Crowds of people are still lined up in droves to collect their monies and stock up on food and essentials this week, despite the national lockdown.
Many people are only receiving their paychecks or Sassa grants this week and are rushing to do last-minute shopping. Social Development Minister Lindiwe Zulu urged Sassa beneficiaries to maintain social distancing.
Pensioners and people living with disabilities started receiving their social grants on Monday. Commuters and pensioners are — in some cases — prevented from receiving their social grants because of suspended public transport. Distraught commuters and pensioners are stranded in some areas as taxis are not operating.

Sultry actress Lehlogonolo “Nolo” Phiri has lost her job as an associate producer in SABC2 soapie Muvhango for allegedly securing a role at a rival production without the knowledge of her boss Duma Ndlovu.
Phiri, who worked closely with Ndlovu on the show, was removed from her position about two weeks ago after she allegedly auditioned for a role in Mzansi Magic drama series Isibaya without his permission. Read more
