South Africans are being urged to wait for a full report into the cause of the fire at Parliament before drawing conclusions and pointing fingers.
This after a report from Cape Town’s city’s fire and rescue service points to a litany of non-compliance with safety regulations at parliament.
Parliamentary spokesperson Moloto Mothapo says the report could be useful in the Hawk’s investigation.
“That report is the preliminary observations of the firefighters having battled the fires over the last three days,” Mothapo said.
“It does not purport to provide conclusive evidence and answers as to what caused the fire, so it’s very important in terms of the body of info being gathered as part of an investigation into this unfortunate fire incident.
“It will be submitted to the Hawks as part of their investigation and will be useful for an internal investigation to be conducted, so I’d appeal to the public, let’s wait for those investigations to be conducted and concluded so that we can get to the bottom of what happened,” he said.
