Introduction:
eNCA: SOUTH AFRICA’S MOST WATCHED TV NEWS CHANNEL. eNCA is South Africa’s most trusted independent TV and online news brand. It launched on June 1st, 2008 to become the country’s first 24-hour television news service.
Reporting to the Editor.
The purpose of this role is to make key editorial judgements in conjunction with the Editor, building a vital and positive relationship with the rest of the editorial team and driving an agenda that interests, engages and stimulates viewers.
1.PROGRAMME PERFORMANCE
Produce high-quality editorial content
Provide high-quality on-air guests and discussion
Improve the creativity of the programme and editorial approach
Provide high-quality news programming
Quality review of all on-air content prior to releasing for broadcasting
Subbing of content
2. MANAGEMENT
Manage the production team utilising motivational techniques, and instilling a culture of creativity and mentorship
Effectively manage editorial team in line with company policies and procedures
Communicate effectively on all levels
3.EDITORIAL LEADERSHIP
Lead the pre-and post-production meetings, when Editor is not available
Assist Editor with managing news diary, assignments and forward planning
Create compelling programming
Create unique content
Request show specific content
Create straps and on-air information
Excellent knowledge of South African and global issues
Writing, sub-editing and re-writing stories
Good understanding of legal and ethical issues with regards to television broadcasts
Skills may be reasonably applied to the same or similar group of tasks as required for the eNuus production process and broadcast
4.TECHNICAL
Excellent understanding of newsroom and gallery workflows
Ability to work under pressure
Will implement rundown changes as per the instruction of the Editor
Impactful decision-making, to anchor, production team and technical crew
Clear and authoritative communication skills
Ability to communicate effectively with all newsroom departments, i.e. Input and Logistics
Key Performance Indicators:
Programme ratings meet or exceed the average monthly audience ratings of the client.
Provide compelling content
Decisive leadership
Ability to direct the team in a breaking news environment

Requirements:
Education: Relevant Television or Journalism Qualification is preferred
Languages: Business Afrikaans and English
Experience: Minimum 7 years relevant experience

Thorough understanding of South African and global news and current affairs
Exceptional knowledge of the Afrikaans language
Excellent understanding of TV news production and workflows
Thorough understanding of media law and ethics
Ability to communicate effectively
Must be enthusiastic and deadline-driven
Must display excellent editorial and leadership skills
Thorough understanding of Afrikaans community and interests of this market
