Orlando Pirates 0-0 Golden Arrows #AbsaPrem

Orlando Pirates have extended their winless run to six matches in all competitions after being held to a goalless draw by Golden Arrows on Wednesday evening.

Thembinkosi Lorch was dropped to the bench as Augustine Mulenga was brought in to lead the Buccaneers attack against an Arrows outfit, who snatched victory at Chippa United over the weekend.

The Buccaneers enjoyed a lot of possession in the early stages of the first half, but it was Arrows who went close to breaking the deadlock on 18 minutes but Nkosinathi Sibisi somehow headed over from six-yards out.

Pirates’ last league goal was in the 3-1 victory over Bloemfontein Celtic on the opening weekend of the season, but it didn’t look as if the hosts would break the deadlock as they were often let down by their final product.

With five minutes to the break, Pirates nearly ended their goal-drought as defender Innocent Maela rattled the crossbar with a towering header from a corner.

While the situation did not change in the opening stages of the second half, interim coach Rhulani Mokwena decided to throw on Lorch for Kabelo Dlamini 10 minutes into the stanza.

The Buccaneers dominated for most of the half but were met by a resolute Arrows defence at every attempt in the final third, as the frustration began to grow.

Steve Komphela’s troops nearly took a surprising lead with 15 minutes remaining as Sibiya’s cross-cum-shot needed a finger-tip save from Wayne Sandilands, who had hardly been tested.

With his final throw of the dice, Mokwena handed a Pirates debut to 2019 Zambian Football of the Year Austin Muwowo, who replaced his countryman Mulenga.

The Zambian’s late introduction did not pay dividends as the Buccaneers were unable to break the deadlock as they settled for a share of the spoils, extending their winless run in the process.

Tanzanian authorities are working to secure the release of an Air Tanzania aircraft which remains impounded at OR Tambo International Airport in Johannesburg following the failure of the Tanzanian government to pay a farmer the full $33 million compensation he is owed after his farm was nationalised decades ago.

The aircraft was seized, following an order granted by the High Court in Johannesburg at the end of last week, after it landed in South Africa during a scheduled flight from Tanzania’s economic capital Dar es Salaam, the East African reported.
