Ex-Eskom CEO Koko denies Optimum wrongdoing

Former Eskom CEO Matshela Koko says it’s unfair that the Gupta-owned Optimum coal mine wasn’t forced to pay back R1.4-billion to Eskom.

In 2015, the Eskom board agreed to pay the mine house around R1.6-billion for coal that was simply never used.

Former Eskom Head of Legal and Compliance, Suzanne Daniels, blew the whistle on the deal, laying the blame squarely on Koko and Former Eskom CFO, Anoj Singh’s feet.

Koko insists he’s done nothing wrong.
