Convicted rapist Bob Hewitt’s release on parole has been suspended. He was convicted for the rape of two young women and s-e-xual assault of another. The tennis star’s parole will now be referred for review to the board.
Department of Justice and Correctional Services spokesperson Chrispin Phiri says proper procedures were not followed.
“The relevant procedures regarding Hewitt’s parole were not followed and in this case that is consulting the victims. You have to consult the victims in the event that you want to release someone on parole.
Hewitt was sentenced to six years in prison. His parole will now be referred for review to the board.

This is according to his mother Mantombi Buthelezi, who told the Sunday Times he had been admitted to hospital for observation last Friday because he was feeling weak and she still did not know what caused his death.
Shobede died at Kalafong Hospital in Pretoria on Thursday, where he had been admitted after collapsing while performing on stage about a week ago. Read more
