Gupta naturalisation inquiry continues

The inquiry into the Gupta family’s naturalisation is expected to continue on Wednesday.

The Portfolio Committee on Home Affairs will hear evidence from the Organisation Undoing Tax Abuse (OUTA) and former Home Affairs official Richard Sikakane.

The committee wants clarity on Home Affairs’ processes that allowed all three Gupta brothers and their relatives to enter South Africa.

It is the second phase of the inquiry.

The first phase heard testimony from Minister Malusi Gigaba.

To date, the Department of Home Affairs has defended Gigaba for fast-tracking the family’s citizenship application.

The minister came under fire in 2017 when it emerged he personally intervened to help the Guptas with their naturalisation certificates in 2015.
