Tottenham sack head coach Nuno Espirito Santo after 10 games in charge

Nuno Espirito Santo is on the verge of being sacked by Tottenham Hotspur as the club holds internal talks over his future in north London.

The former Wolves coach received a barrage of abuse from home supporters on Saturday afternoon after Spurs slipped to a dismal 3-0 defeat to Manchester United.

Questions were already being asked about Nuno’s leadership, having lost to Crystal Palace, Chelsea, West Ham United and bitter rivals Arsenal this season. But this most recent defeat to a United side in apparent turmoil could have brought the 47-year-old’s tenure to a premature end.

90min understands that Spurs are holding internal talks on Monday to further discuss Nuno’s future, after the club began considering their options over the weekend.

Both chairman Daniel Levy and managing director Fabio Paratici are very concerned about the way things have gone this season and should they find a suitable replacement, the current head coach will be sacked.

For now, Nuno is expected to be given the Vitesse Arnhem and Everton games over the coming days to prove his mettle, but this could change.

The atmosphere turned toxic in north London at the weekend, with supporters chanting, ‘You don’t know what you’re doing’ at their beleaguered coach. Nuno admitted after the game that the players weren’t good enough, while even talisman Harry Kane came in for abuse from the home crowd.

Spurs only appointed their head coach at the start of the season, having held meetings with several other managers before landing on the ex-Wolves man. One of those men was Antonio Conte and he could be back in the frame to replace Nuno.

Conte was one of the favourites to take over from Jose Mourinho in the summer but the club failed to reach an agreement with the Italian, who’d just left Inter over the club’s inability to meet his on-field demands.

Chairman Daniel Levy eventually decided on Nuno, but with Conte also linked with a potential move to Manchester United, he may view this as the perfect time to swoop in and land the coach he may feel he should have chosen several months ago.
