You just knew it didn’t you? Today, this weekend, was just too enjoyable for Ntsiki Mazwai not to come out with a comment that would have Twitter up in arms. The poet has fired shots in all different directions in the last year and on Saturday morning she took aim at Trevor Noah.
On a weekend when we have been celebrating Zozibini’s homecoming, watching some world-class tennis action and enjoying a bit of unity in the country, it was always going to be a matter of when, rather than if, someone was going to try and ruin the fun. As it turns out, that person was Ntsiki Mazwai who came out onto the timeline to claim that Trevor Noah was no longer in touch with black South Africa.
The outspoken poet came out and said: Trevor Noah is starting to have that energy of the black child adopted by whites…….not quite the same as the other blacks. Wears nice clothes and has nice toys. And distances themselves from blackness.
Needless to say, quite a large number of social media users disagreed with her:
