Mokonyane nominated as Parliament Chair of Chairpersons

27 Nov. 17 Minister of Water and Sanitation Nomvula Mokonyane read the municipalities the riot act‚ saying the department had been told by National Treasury that its revenue collection efforts were not serious enough‚ which led to the action being taken. The Minister announced at a press briefing in Johannesburg on Monday that the department had issued notices to 30 defaulting municipalities demanding that they make arrangements to pay their share of R10.7-billion owed to the various water authorities before 8 December. ANC’s Nomvula Mokonyane has been nominated as Parliament Chair of Chairpersons.

This means Mokanyane will not be a Cabinet minister.

Meanwhile, Pemmy Majodina has also been named as the new ANC Chief Whip in the National Assembly.

The ANC selected Amos Masondo as National Council of Provinces Chairperson and Sylvia Lucas as Deputy Chair.

Thandie Modise is nominated as Speaker of the National Assembly with Lechasa Tsenoli as her deputy.

These decisions were made during ANC’s NEC meeting in Cape Town on Monday.
