Nomsa Buthelezi is a busy woman nowadays, not only because she recently joined the cast of SABC 1’s Generations: The Legacy as Boipelo, but also because she is now planning her own lesbian wedding.

Buthelezi (37) is over the moon regarding the big day in her life. For her, the wedding coming after she recently joined the cast of one of the SA’s biggest soapies is a feat she would like to dwell on for a long time.

Remembering her first day on the set of Generations: The Legacy, Nomsa said she was greatly impressed joining famous people, big names in the entertainment industry.

“I grew up watching the likes of Rapulana Seiphemo and Vusi Kunene on TV and here I am working with them,” she told Move magazine.

In her new role, she plays the character Boipelo, a teacher who has self-love and confidence issues.

LOVE LIFE

After breaking up with the father of her two children, the incident left Nomsa in her lowest spirits, very confused and depressed. But ten years later Nomsa met the love of her life, Zandile Shezi.

For the two lovers, coming from different provinces has not been a negative factor, Zandile is from KwaZuluNatal, and Nomsa from Gauteng, but they have made it work. The pair are both happy and have now decided to get married.

The two lesbian lovers had been dating for 10 months, they held a traditional ceremony on 15 December 2018, and are now planning their white wedding.

Nomsa’s way up in the industry was not a toll in the park, her fame was born out of a struggle, and sometime ten years ago, she had to quit the fraternity for a while.

It was a bad patch in her career, that she even went as far as doubting her own capabilities, and talent, more so remembering her former agent’s ‘curse’ like sentiments who once told her that she was not good enough.

“I used to feel hopeless and incompetent. And it didn’t help that my former agent once said to me, ‘You’re useless and not talented. The industry is not looking for a person like you,” she recalled.

In 2008, Nomsa had to take up work as a receptionist, in order to make ends meet.

“My friend was a receptionist at a doctor’s surgery and I would help out because the doctor was very busy. Patients would come in sick and I would entertain them.

“The doctor even said to me‘ Whatever you are running away from in your life, you need to go back because this job is not for you,” she added, sharing her experiences with the magazine.

It is this doctor’s encouragement that changed her life, she took his words, and decided to give it another try, since then she has never looked back, and today; she is one of South Africa’s household names in the entertainment circles.
