Police have arrested the mayor of Newcastle Ntuthuko Mahlaba.Mahlaba, an ANC regional chairperson, was taken into custody on Friday. eNCA understands Mahlaba was arrested in connection with the murder of Wandile Ngobeni, a former Youth League official.

He’s also been linked to the attempted murder of another ANC Youth League leader, Mafika Mndebele.

That incident occurred in 2017.
