Durban increases policing ahead of New Year’s Eve celebrations

Thousands of revellers will be heading to the Durban shore to ring in the New Year. Traffic is rising and beaches across the city are expected to be packed.

Police have brought in more officers to control the crowds and keep tabs on criminal activity.

Officers on foot, bikes and the mounted unit are all patrolling the beachfront.

Durban Metro Police spokesperson Parboo Sewpersad said their deployment plan is going well thus far.

“We are ready for tonight. We understand that tonight there are many events hosted in the city,” he said.

“We are going to be policing all these events.”
