COVID-19 Statistics: South Africa has recorded 8,319 new COVID-19 infections

Earlier in the week, Dr Zweli Mkhize announced the second wave of Covid-19. South Africa has recorded over 8,000 new COVID-19 infections for the second consecutive day.

On Friday night, the Department of Health reported 8,319 new cases which bring the total number of infections to 845,083.

There have been 205 new deaths reported, pushing the death toll to 22,952.

The Eastern Cape accounts for most of the new deaths.

In Other News – Eskom wants Guptas, ex-minister and others to pay back R3.8 billion

Eskom chief executive officer (CEO) André de Ruyter has confirmed that the power utility had instituted a claim for R3.8 billion against members of the Gupta family.

Speaking to the media on Friday, De Ruyter welcomed the announcement that ABB South Africa, formerly ASEA Brown Boveri, had reached an agreement with the Special Investigating Unit (SIU) to repay Eskom R1.5 billion for an overpayment on a contract awarded for work on the Kusile power station project. learn more
