The Hawks arrested Nelson Mandela Bay’s acting municipal manager on Friday morning.
Mvuleni Mapu is alleged to be involved in fraud and corruption linked to the Human Settlements Department, of which he’s a director.
It has been reported that a second person, alleged to be an associate of Mapu’s, has also been arrested.
Two weeks ago, reports surfaced that the ANC in the Eastern Cape would go after councillors who went against the party by supporting Mapu’s appointment as housing director.
They had allegedly been given instruction not to endorse his appointment.
