National State of Disaster extended by another month

The government has extended South Africa’s State of Disaster by another month.

CoGTA Minister Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma says the government needs to continue adapting existing laws around the impact of the pandemic.

With winter looming and the possibility of another COVID-19 wave, the health department has formulated new regulations to replace the national state of disaster.

Health Minister Joe Phaahla presented the proposals to the National Coronavirus Command Council when it met on Monday.

Phaahla said he hopes this will assist in guiding the reopening of the economy, including the leisure and tourism sectors.
