MTN has been accused of supporting terrorism. A US court has been told the network operator and other large corporates made payments to the Taliban, in order to protect their businesses in Afghanistan.
The complaint has been filed in the district court of Colombia by American service members, civilians and families whose loved ones were killed or wounded in Afghanistan between 2009 and 2017.
MTN has defended itself, highlighting that it conducts its business in a responsible and compliant manner but will be reviewing the report. The complainants allege that the corporations supported the Taliban by making payments to ensure the protection of their infrastructure.
