Maskandi stars Vela Khoza and Bukelani Khuzwayo gang up against Mthandeni
MASKANDI artists Vela “Sgwebo Sentambo” Khoza and Bukelani “Dlubheke” Khuzwayo have ganged up against Mthandeni “Igcokama elisha” Manqele.
They claim he is not an artist and is taking maskandi music backwards.
Sgwebo Sentambo and Dlubheke were speaking on a YouTube channel called Umbuso Wamaciko, where they were invited as special guests.
On the episode, Dlubheke said: “I’m not afraid of Mthandeni. Even if he was here I was going to tell him the same thing, that he’s not an artist. He’s just untombo (a girl). He simply cannot sing, he doesn’t have a voice to sing.”
He said he’s got nothing against Mthandeni.
Sgwebo Sentambo said: “He is the reason why maskandi artists don’t perform overseas. It is because of his songs such as Amapentshisi, Waphafa Gogo and Siyehla Siyemakhaya. These songs don’t have a message and they are taking us backwards. A maskandi song must send a special message, it must heal, it must entertain. But when you sing Waphafa Gogo you are creating a wrong impression that you’re dating older women.”
But Mthandeni said Dlubheke and Sgwebo Sentambo are looking for attention.
“Both Dlubheke and Sgwebo Sentambo are outdated artists. I am not surprised because they’re hungry. They haven’t worked for two years and now they want to be relevant, they want attention.
“This is a cheap PR stunt and I refuse to be part of it. I can easily respond and entertain them but I am too busy with my projects. Maskandi artists must learn to do proper PR without involving my name,” said Mthandeni.
