Mpumalanga ready to fight COVID-19

Health Minister Dr Zweli Mkhize says an investigation has been launched into how health workers in the country are contracting coronavirus. Mkhize made the comment while visiting one of the hospitals Mpumalanga identified to deal with the COVID-19 outbreak. The province has just over 20 cases, but the minister says early detection is important. We’ve now been very pleased to see that at this point they’ve screened about 94, 000 members of the community. We need to keep pushing these numbers up,” Mkhize said.

The minister urged people to allow themselves to be screened, saying it’s part of flattening the curve. When our team goes all over they are getting a good reception, but there would be here and there where some people are anxious. Even then we speak to them so people don’t fear. It’s all in their interest,” Mkhize said.

Mkhize also visited Ermelo Hospital, which is the official COVID-19 referral hospital in the province. It has 37 beds in total, allocated just to coronavirus patients. We do have our quarantine places, so if there’s a need to refer cases to those areas. All our workers have been trained. We can say that we’re ready,” said Mpumalanga Health MEC Sasekani Manzini.
