Motorists to dig deeper as petrol price increases

Yet another fuel hike confirmed from midnight. The Energy Department says the price of petrol will be increased by over 80 cents a litre.

The department says a weaker rand and higher oil prices are chiefly behind the hikes.

Diesel is set to go up by 58 cents a litre and paraffin will be hiked by 59 cents. February’s inland petrol price will be R15.67 a litre.

In May last year, 95 octane reached a low of R12.22 after the oil price crashed due to the coronavirus pandemic.
