Moja Love sends a strong warning to scammers

Popular DStv channel Moja Love is warning the public of a donation scam in the name of Sizok’thola host and crew. According to Zimoja, an account under the name TC Simelane has created a poster asking for fans to donate R100 each into a bank account that will allegedly go towards Sizok’thola host Xolani Khumalo’s legal costs.

“We are sad to inform you the presenter of the Sizok’thola show Xolani Khumalo is facing a murder charge. A drug dealer died while [being] interrogated by the Sizok’thola team,” read the post.

In another poster, the donated money is said to allegedly go to the family of the deceased. However, Xolani and Moja Love have rubbished the posters and campaign. The channel has also flagged the scam with Capitec and reported it.

“This scam is saying that Sizok’thola is asking for R100 donations. This is not true. This is a scam. That money is not going to us,” the Sizok’thola host said.
As previously reported by The South African, Xolani and the Sizok’thola crew are under investigation following the death of a suspected drug dealer the show’s crew had interrogated during the filming of the much-loved anti-drug show.

The man, identified as Robert “Kicks” Varrie, had been the subject of a drug bust in Katlehong on Wednesday, 19 July, which was attended by the Sizok’thola crew.
In a statement by the show’s channel, Moja LOVE, Xolani and his Sizok’thola team headed to Katlehong after receiving a tip-off. They did this in conjunction with community law enforcement groups that are recognised by the local South African Police Service (SAPS).

The channel said it is, however, still investigating the circumstances that led to the deceased having to be allegedly rushed to hospital. We will wait for the official autopsy results for cause of death,” said the channel.

Moja Love said that the show works with law enforcement agencies and hands over case numbers and suspects in each episode to the authorities for further investigations and legal processes.

“The channel will cooperate with any investigations that may be initiated and it sends its condolences to the deceased’s family. The channel is also offering the crew and any other interested individuals counselling assistance following news of the deceased.
