Minnie Dlamini issues public apology over ‘R10 million IDC grant’ error

Minnie Dlamini has come out to set the record straight on statements that she made about apparently receiving a “R10 million grant” from the Industrial Development Corporation of SA (IDC)
The TV personality and entrepreneur made the statements in her cover interview for the December issue of Destiny magazine.
In the article Minnie said that the IDC had granted her the funding for her upcoming beauty range, MD Beauty.
Minnie received major backlash for the claims after social media users questioned how she got the whopping amount.
It was suggested that Minnie received the grant because she was a public figure, while other aspiring entrepreneurs struggled to get funding

One follower even approached the Public Protector’s office to look into the matter.

In the wake of the backlash, Minnie took to Twitter to issue an apology for the confusion
“In my Destiny cover I was quoted saying I received a grant from the IDC for my new business. I in fact applied for a loan payable with interest which is still pending due to the error. My apologies for any confusion caused. For the record the mistake was entirely mine and I apologise further,” Minnie said.

The IDC also issued a statement, confirming that Minnie’s initial comments were incorrect
“We can confirm that the information contained in the Destiny article is incorrect. The IDC has not granted the said business any funds. Below is a correction from Minnie Dlamini,” read part of the statement.
