Members of the National Assembly have slammed former minister Mosebenzi Zwane for his repeated failures to make a public apology.
The former minister and MEC was found guilty by the Powers and Privileges Committee of contempt of Parliament as a result.
The National Assembly on Wednesday considered the powers and privileges report which recommended the docking of half of Zwane’s March salary.
The house adopted the report that found Zwane guilty of contempt of Parliament for repeated failures to apologize.
The report followed another ethics probe which found Zwane guilty for not declaring his Gupta benefits and he was ordered to apologize for which he failed.
DA MP Désirée van der Walt says Zwane should have known better.
“Today we are also not dealing with a case of a newcomer but an experienced person, a previous MEC in the Free State and minister in this house.”
ANC MP Grace Tseke read out his sanctions.
“The reduction of half of his monthly remuneration effective from the 1st of March 2024.”
Zwane must make the public apology in person by no later than the 29th of March.
