Higher Education Minister Blade Nzimande has urged private education provider, Educor, to make arrangements for its students to complete their studies elsewhere.
Damelin, City Varsity, Icesa City Campus, and Lyceum College, which are all owned by Educor, have been deregistered as higher education institutions.
Since 2020, the four private colleges failed to submit audited annual financial statements and have not complied with some regulations.
Thousands of students enrolled at Educor’s higher education institutions have been left in a quandry as their dreams of obtaining a post-matric qualification are at risk.
But Minister Nzimande said that the department was willing to assist with transferring affected students to both public institutions and complying private colleges.
“There is no credible evidence to suggest that management of Educor is working to improve or correct some of the serious government and compliance failures.”
Nzimande has ordered the four institutions to cease operations before the end of the academic year.
This means they’re also prohibited from accepting new students.
