SA has an influx of asylum seekers: Home Affairs Minister Aaron Motsoaledi

Home Affairs Minister Aaron Motsoaledi says South Africa has seen an influx of asylum seekers since 2007. Speaking at the opening of a new state-of-the-art Home Affairs precinct in Epping, Cape Town, which consists of a new refugee center, Motsoaledi says there is no backlog with the asylum seeker system but rather with those appealing rejection.

“We don’t have any backlog as I am speaking now here in South Africa on asylum seeker or refugee applicants. The backlog we are having is a backlog of appeals,” he said.
