I was mandated to expose corruption, says Mervyn Dirks

Mervyn Dirks did not need permission to expose corruption because his party gave him that mandate when he was sworn in as an MP.

The suspended ANC MP called for President Cyril Ramaphosa to account for remarks allegedly made in a leaked audio clip.

In the clip, the president could be heard speaking of the misuse of public funds for internal party leadership campaigns in 2017.

Dirks says that by the time he raised the matter, the allegations were already in the public domain.

He was speaking to JJ Tabane on Power To Truth.

“I felt that since this thing is in the public domain and the ANC have time and again told us that we must expose corruption, the president himself saying you must expose corruption, you must fight corruption,” he said.

“I don’t need permission now to say can I go and raise this issue now, because I have been given the mandate by the ANC to say expose corruption wherever it exists.”
