Minimum requirements for the role:

Must be a qualified medical doctor.
An additional qualification in biochemistry, medical microbiology or related would be advantageous.
Previous experience as a medical advisor is essential.
Previous experience having dealt with the pathology or IVD markets would be advantageous.
Will be responsible for South Africa however must be willing to travel internationally as well.
Excellent knowledge of current hospital, clinical and medical issues with experience in the reimbursement environment i.e. medical aid and insurance experience would be advantageous.
Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills.

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

Establishing and leading the medical affairs activities in English speaking Africa.
Actively contributing to the ongoing development of Medical Affairs in the country, region or cluster, in collaboration with Area Managers, General Managers and Global Medical Affairs.
Keeping up-to-date with scientific and medical knowledge in the areas of interest for the company (mainly infectious diseases, microbiology and acute care) in order to provide relevant advice to relevant stakeholders within the company and influencers.
Attending pertinent sessions of healthcare-associated meetings (government, Non-Governmental Organisations, medical, funders and patients, etc.).
Engaging at high-levels to influence treatment guidelines.
Identifying, engaging and developing long-term relationships with current and rising thought leaders (Key Opinion Leaders, experts, and others) in infectious diseases, laboratory medicine, critical care and other relevant specialties, as well as with key and relevant healthcare institutional personnel i.e. laboratory personnel, infection control and Pharmacists, etc.
Building a strong network of pertinent and relevant Key Opinion Leaders in order to obtain relevant advice, expert opinion, collaboration, guideline development, and clinical studies, etc.
Contributing to medical educational (both internally and externally) in line with the company’s strategy.
Identifying potential research gaps and leading, and contributing to local post-market studies (liaising with Investigators, creating and validating study design as well as studying, monitoring and analyzing results, etc.).
Assisting with increasing the medical and scientific visibility of the company through scientific publications, symposia, and workshops.
Participating in professional and medical societies, developing contacts with healthcare authorities and making medical and outcome-based presentations to a broad range of stakeholders.
Informing corporate functions regarding local unmet medical needs and providing appropriate medical expertise as the Internal Medical Expert for the subsidiary or region.
