Max Verstappen hints at retiring if Red Bull does deliver fast car in 2026

Two-time Formula One champion Max Verstappen has hinted at retiring should Red Bull fail to deliver a race winning car after 2026. The 25-year-old Dutch driver has had a dominant season so far winning 10 of the 12 races.

In a recent interview, the Red Bull driver was asked what he would do if Red Bull fails to deliver a championship winning car in 2026 once the new regulations kick in. I don’t see myself spending three years in the midfield. I’d rather stay home or do something else. But again, I don’t see that [RB not delivering] happening,” Verstappen said in an interview.

The championship leader is currently on an eight-race winning streak and should he win the next race which is in his home, he would have equalled Sebastian Vettel’s record of most consecutive race wins. Former F1 driver Mark Webber believes that the day Red Bull loses its pace is the day the Dutchman’s dominance will end.

“I think it’s really hard for people to understand this level of domination, how much work and effort goes into it,” 9-time Grand Prix winner Webber told F1.com. “It’s only reliability [problems] that will stop it, I think,” he said.
During his days at Red Bull, Webber won nine races but the main star of the team was Vettel, who won close to 40 races with the Austrian team.

Red Bull have won all of the 12 races so far this season with Verstappen’s teammate Sergio Perez winning two races. Their 2023 RB19 car is regarded as one of the most dominant cars in Formula 1 history having won the majority of races by more than 20 seconds from the chasing pack.
