The ANC is refuting the DA’s claims that it orchestrated the disruption of a meeting between mayor Herman Mashaba and Alexandra residents.
The community embarked on more than a week of protests, demanding improved service delivery and an end to illegal structures.
Mashaba tried to address residents in Marlboro on Monday, but he was not allowed to speak.
The DA accused the ANC of purposefully bussing people to the meeting to ensure Mashaba’s address couldn’t take place.
ANC zonal secretary Banele Sangcozi said the mayor raised the issue of affordable housing, but housing is not the only issue Alexandra residents are raising.
Sangcozi said Mashaba had misinterpreted the remarks made by ANC president Cyril Ramaphosa.
