UEFA Champions League

Manchester United 4 -1 Istanbul Basaksehir

Fernandes opened the scoring early on for the hosts with a stunning 20-yard finish before tapping in a second. Marcus Rashford scored from the penalty spot to make it 3-0 before half-time. Bruno Fernandes scored twice as Manchester United beat Istanbul Basaksehir on Tuesday to close in on a place in the knockout stages of the Champions League.

Deniz Turuc scored a free-kick late on for the visitors but Daniel James side-footed in to round off the victory. The result means Manchester United are top of Group H with nine points, three ahead of second-place Paris St-Germain.

There’s just enough time for Greenwood to shoot and Gunok to save, and that’s the end of a fine evening’s entertainment. United was magnificent in the first half, attacking with verve and panache.

Not so good in the second, but then they made a tranche of changes, so that’s understandable. The three points keep them top of the group, and they now only need a point from their final two matches against PSG and Leipzig to make the knockout stage!
