Man Utd Announce 3rd Signing and sets World Record

Manchester United have officially announced the signing of Harry Maguire, who becomes the most expensive defender in the world.

The saga around the England international is finally over, with United and Leicester City have agreed to a world-record fee of €87 million (R1.42 billion) for the player, according to the Daily Telegraph.

Maguire has signed a six-year contract, with the option to extend for a further year at Old Trafford, and has replaced Liverpool’s Virgil van Dijk as the most expensive defender in football history.

“I am delighted to have signed for this great club,” he told the club’s official website.

“I have thoroughly enjoyed my time at Leicester and would like to thank everyone at the club, and the fans, for their fantastic support over the past two seasons. However, when Manchester United come knocking on your door, it is an incredible opportunity.

”From my conversations with the manager, I am excited about the vision and plans he has for the team. It’s clear to see that Ole is building a team to win trophies. I am now looking forward to meeting my new team-mates and getting the season started.”

The 26-year-old joined Leicester for a fee of just €13.7 million (R224 million) in 2017 and has since made 76 appearances for the Foxes.

He becomes United’s third signing ahead of the 2019/20 campaign, following Daniel James and Aaron Wan-Bissaka.
