Makro reveal first Black Friday 2023 deals

Massmart has shared its plans for this year’s Black Friday, including the first deals available from Builders, Game, and Makro. The company has decided to re-introduce month-long Black Friday promotions at its three biggest stores following consumer research.

Massmart chief customer officer Andrew Stein said that providing extra time to shop for deals would allow customers to validate whether they were indeed getting a good offer.

“Massmart’s customers have been clear that they prefer month-long promotions as they have more time to compare pricing and shop the items they really need and are able to avoid the Black Friday rush,” Stein said.

“With our strong store presence, online home delivery or online in-store pickup offerings, we’re ready to make this Black Friday a convenient and stress-free shopping experience.”

Massmart chief merchandise officer Herman Venter encouraged shoppers to use price comparison tools before making Black Friday buying decisions this year, stating that the company’s merchandising team had worked for over a year to secure the best possible prices on all the items it stocked at the participating stores. All deals will be available online and in-store, while stocks last.

The deals at Builders, Game, and Makro will change every week over the next month, with the weeks running as shown in the table below. Massmart said its research showed that electronics, computers, TVs, audio systems, groceries, and beverages were the most in-demand product categories for Black Friday this year.

The company has also identified demand for essential items like tinned food, rice, coffee, sugar, washing powder, and milk

“In line with these insights, we have extended our Black Friday focus at Game and Makro to provide best possible value on groceries and pantry essentials,” said Massmart marketing vice president, Katherine Madley.

Massmart encouraged customers to use the OneCart on-demand shipping service if they wanted to buy items from multiple retailers — including Game and Makro.

Online shoppers at Builders, Game and Makro stores will also have the option of online click-and-collect this year at all Makro and Builders stores, in addition to 67 Game stores. Massmart said that approximately 98% of Makro’s online click-and-collect orders were ready for next-day collection.

The retailer also provided leaflets with deals available during the first weeks of offers from each store. At Builders, one of the best deals we found on tech products was a Lalela inverter trolley with 60Ah battery selling for R7,399, marked down from R11,999.

Game’s first week of deals includes discounts on a range of TVs, laptops, smartphones, and other tech. Makro is also offering discounts on a wide variety of tech and general goods, including TVs, power stations, refrigerators, washing machines, and air fryers.

Many of its offers are part of bundle deals consisting of multiple products. We have embedded the brochures for the first week of Black Friday 2023 offers from each store below.
