Several people, including DA MP Phumzile Van Damme took to Twitter to voice their opinions following Mmusi Maimane‘s resignation as the leader of the Democratic Alliance. On Wednesday, Maimane announced his resignation, with former Nelson Mandela Bay mayor Athol Trollip following suit.
Their resignations follow that of Johannesburg Mayor Herman Mashaba. Mashaba announced his resignation on Monday. Maimane was elected leader of the party in 2015 succeeding Helen Zille.

Maimane speaks as though he was the first black person to join the DA, and the first one to encourage diversity. He is the product of a party that cares about being a party for all. I joined in 2008. Many black people who joined before him will stay to see that project through.

The resignation of #MmusiMaimane is a sad moment in South African politics.
For those of you who do want to make it in white organisations, please may this be a reminder that a standard of competence in SA is how much you do not disturb the status quo.
