Lynne Brown blocked at state capture inquiry

Former public enterprises minister Lynne Brown won’t be able to cross-examine witnesses at the state capture inquiry.

Commission chair Deputy Chief Justice Raymond Zondo’s admonished Brown’s lawyers for not offering her side of the story amid allegations she was a Gupta family lackey.

Brown doesn’t dispute she had a relationship with the family, but disputes claims she did their bidding.

Zondo didn’t mince his words when he struck down Brown’s application to cross-examine witnesses.

Brown specifically wanted to test Mcebisi Jonas’ assertion that a Gupta brother boasted Brown was in the family’s pocket when they offered him the finance minister post.

As much as her legal team tried, Justice Zondo did not accept it.

Attention now turns to the potentially explosive testimony of current Finance Minister Nhlanhla Nene as he will recount his axing in December 2015.

Pravin Gordhan gives his input to the commission on 10 October.
