Mountain fire approaching Lion’s Head

A fire has broken out on the slopes of Table Mountain and is making its way to Lion’s Head. Cape Town’s disaster management centre is asking people to close their windows and doors against smoke and heat.
A group of hikers has also been evacuated from the Lion’s Head area.
Five properties and five cars have been destroyed in the blaze.
Jermaine Carelse from the City of Cape Town says that 19 firefighters are on the scene battling the fire.
“We have reports of approximately five houses that have been affected by this fire,” Carelse said.
“At this stage, we have no idea of what the cause of the fire is. Our main concern would be protecting property, saving lives and trying to contain this fire,”
