Over 800 suspects arrested in Limpopo campaign

Limpopo police on Wednesday confirmed that 866 people have been arrested during operation “New Dawn”. Those arrested, aged between 19 and 51 face charges including murder, rape, armed robbery and possession of drugs.

“Crime trends will always differ to the next province … Our operation was established emanating from our crime analysis patterns”, said police Constable Maphure Manamela.

The operation was conducted from 17 to 25 June 2019 in an effort to curb high levels of crime in the province.

Roadblock Police

Various police units from the province such as the K9 Unit, the Public Order Police Unit and the Tactical Response Team (TRT) played a role in the crime crackdown operation.

Police issued 1001 traffic fines, closed 8 shebeens, seized five vehicles, computers, 27 knives, 10 firearms, cellphones, drugs and other items.

“We are prioritising areas which are crime infested in a way that we do not want to see criminals terrorising our communities. Our objective is to stabilise and normalise these areas which are experiencing high levels of crime”, added Manamela.
