Families of Lily Mine victims want closure

Family and colleagues of three miners buried underground at Lily Mine in Barberton, Mpumalanga have vowed to continue camping outside the mine.

Tuesday marked 1,000 days since relatives, colleagues, and community members decided to wait at the mine until the bodies were retrieved.

It was 5 February 2016 when a container that Pretty Nkambule, Yvonne Mnisi, and Solomon Nyirenda were working in collapsed and sank at the mine.

The families of the trio say this unresolved tragedy continues to take a toll on them.

But they have vowed not to give up.
