Why Randall Abrahams is leaving Idols SA

Idols SA’s 18th offering will regrettably start without seasoned judges, Unathi Nkayi and Randall Abrahams.
This, after the singing competition’s management through M-Net informed the public last Friday that they were letting go of the duo.

The unexpected news came after media revelations that Somizi who was let go a few months ago had found his way back for season 18.

The revelations added that Somizi was taken back because he has been the life of the show and that his exit from the show came with paining effects in terms of declining viewership.

Fan-favourite Randall’s exit didn’t sit well with masses who were quick to bash the singing competition for the move.

Announcing Randall’s exit, M-Net’s director for local entertainment Shirley Ardonis claimed it was the channel’s decision to let go of the judge so to keep the show entertaining and competitive.

“The channel will not be renewing their contracts with for the upcoming season of the popular singing show.”

“We are taking a fresh approach to the judging panel to retain audiences and stay competitive in the Sunday night timeslot.”

“Randall and Unathi have demonstrated high levels of professionalism and made an impact on the South African entertainment scene that will continue to be felt for some time to come.”

“We wish them well in their endeavours,” she said in a statement.

This decision was reportedly welcomed by Randall and unlike his colleagues, there’s no bad blood between him and the singing competition.

In other words, Idols claimed it decided to let go of Randall who had been part of the judges panel for over two decades because fans had found him and the singing competition boring.

The same was said of Unathi Nkayi.
