Duties and responsibilities:

Teach in construction, quantity surveying and/or and project management.
Complete and manage construction management, quantity surveying, project management and/or property studies’ accreditation documentation in consultation with the department head.
Supervise (undergraduate and postgraduate) students’ research (depending on level of appointment).
Conduct research and deliver papers and publish articles.
Maintain links with other tertiary institutions.
Co-ordinate department research (dependent on level).
Develop, improve and market the construction management, quantity surveying, project management and property studies programmes.
Undertake university community engagement initiatives.
Participate in administrative tasks.
Serve on university, national and international bodies/councils/committees.
Inherent requirements:

Lecturer:

A Master’s degree (NQF level 9) in a built environment field preceded by honours or equivalent degree on NQF level 8 in construction management or quantity surveying or building science;
Proven experience in the delivery of poster or oral presentations at conferences or equivalent activities;
Provide evidence of manuscripts produced that have the potential to be converted or submitted for publication in accredited journals;
A good academic record.

Senior Lecturer:

Ph.D. (NQF level 10) in a built environment field preceded by a Master’s degree on NQF level 9 and an honours or equivalent degree on NQF level 8 in construction management, quantity surveying or building science;
Proven experience in the presentation of paper/poster at national scholarly conferences;
An NRF rating or demonstrate potential for obtaining an NRF rating;
Proven experience in supervision of graduated master’s students;
A proven research record of relevant publications in national and international accredited journals;
Proven experience of service as an active member of a national or international scholarly society or committee or agency concerned with research at higher education levels.

Required competencies:

Good understanding of the theory and application of Construction Management and/or quantity surveying and/or project management (and the construction and property industries industry in general).
Ability to facilitate learning at tertiary level.
Ability to conduct and supervise research.
Good work ethics and ability to work well with members of the department and students.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
Good presentation, oral and written skills.
Ability to develop and improve learning material.
Ability to participate in administrative duties as well as departmental third income stream initiatives and community engagements.

Recommendations:

Registration with relevant professional bodies or ability to demonstrate that registration can be achieved within reasonable time.
Willing to enroll for a doctoral degree at the first available opportunity, if not yet attained by the time of the appointment;
Proven research record of relevant publications in national accredited journals;
Member of a national or international scholarly society or committee.
Assumption of duties:

First position: 1 September 2019 or as soon as possible.

Second position: 1 January 2020 or as soon as possible.

Closing date:

24 August 2019.

Salary:

The salary scale is available on request.
