KZN traffic authorities are closely monitoring major routes across KwaZulu-Natal after multiple road accidents were reported on Sunday. The province is currently being battered by heavy rainfall, strong winds, and thunderstorms, prompting officials to step up safety measures and deploy emergency response teams.
The South African Weather Service (SAWS) has issued a warning that the severe weather conditions are expected to persist until Monday. Motorists have been urged to drive cautiously, avoid unnecessary travel, and keep updated on road closures and diversions.
The adverse weather conditions have already caused several accidents across KwaZulu-Natal, including a major crash involving a truck carrying motor vehicles on the N3 highway near Durban. The incident led to traffic congestion and delays, with emergency services rushing to the scene to clear the road and assist motorists.
KZN Traffic Authorities Respond to Multiple Accidents
KZN traffic authorities have activated rapid response teams to patrol major highways and provincial routes. Their primary focus is to prevent secondary accidents and ensure the safety of all road users.
Ndabezinhle Sibiya, spokesperson for the provincial Department of Transport, confirmed the deployment of additional traffic officers and inspectors to deal with the increased risks on the roads.
