The KwaZulu-Natal government is calling for a state of disaster to be declared in the wake of devastating storms.
It’s estimated that the storms caused at least R3-billion in damages.
The province says the state of disaster will allow access to emergency funds and also empower the province to reallocate existing budgets and grants.
The storm, which broke on 30 December, claimed 25 lives and left thousands homeless.
The Provincial Executive Council met on Thursday to receive a report from the Disaster Management Sub-Committee.
The report revealed the storm’s trail of destruction on homes, schools, roads, and other critical infrastructure.
