
The death toll related to the recent storm in northern KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) has risen to eight.
Parts of the province were badly damaged by the severe rains late last week – into the weekend.
Coastal areas and some districts including uThukela and Harry Gwala were also affected with public infrastructure damaged.
Six people were confirmed dead on Tuesday morning, but KZN Cooperative Governance MEC Bongiwe Sithole Moloi said that number had increased.
“The most recent fatalities were reported in Inkosi Langalibalele Local Municipality within the uThukela District and Nquthu Local Municipality in the uMzinyathi District. This brings the total number of deaths to eight people, as assessments continue across our province.”
